Shreve United Methodist Church, 430 N. Main St., Shreve, will host a GriefShare program for those who have experienced the death of a family member or friend. Sessions will be held at the church each Thursday from Jan. 6 through March 31 from 7-8:30 p.m. Weekly sessions are self-contained, and participants are welcome to join at any point in the 13-week cycle. Missed sessions can be picked up in the next 13-week cycle.

GriefShare is a nondenominational program featuring Christ-centered, biblical teachings that focus on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. The DVD seminar features nationally respected grief experts and real-life stories, followed by a small group discussion.

Many grieving people find they are only beginning the work of healing when friends or family have returned to their daily life routines. Past participants have related how helpful the information and follow-up discussions were to them.

Your bereavement experience may be recent or not so recent. Participants will find encouragement, comfort and help in grieving the death of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, other family member or friend. No matter what the cause of a loved one’s death, this is an opportunity to be around people who understand. Those attending will learn how to recognize the symptoms of being stuck in grief. They will learn about facing a new normal in life and that they do not need to live in bondage to certain emotions.

To register or for questions, call or email Wendy Starr at 330-465-1791 or starrwendy@gmail.com. It’s $20 to cover the cost of the book, and scholarships are available.
