Mary Beth Kuhns was welcomed as a new member to TOPS OH1573 Nashville on Oct. 14. Members introduced themselves by telling what benefits they get from belonging to TOPS. The club had a seven-pound loss, and Laura Weaver was their best loser. She told them to get out and exercise. Geneva Pringle and Janice Tope were their best re-dedicated losers. Pringle told them to cut back on fried foods. Tope said to eat plenty of vegetables. A new contest and doing community service and helping a needy family at Christmas time was discussed. Susan Schlabach presented a program entitled How to Avoid Stress Eating around the Holidays. Things listed were: do not over-commit, exercise every day, avoid extra sweets, have a positive attitude, unplug the telephone an hour each day, watch a funny movie or video, take time for yourself, keep your expectations in check, and keep a joy journal. Members met Oct. 21 at the Nashville Methodist Church with 10 members and two guests present and a one-and-three-quarter pound loss. Their best rededicated loser was Ruth Evans. She chose getting more sleep as what to do for the next week. Best KOPS chose eating more fruit and vegetables. The club held an open house with guest speaker Dave Simon, who is in TOPS and has lost 170 pounds. He gave an interesting talk about how he lost his weight and offered suggestions and inspiration. He shared with them that it took him 168 weeks to reach his goal and he only had a gain on 18 of those weeks. He ended his talk with a poem, The Person in the Glass. The chapter meets Wednesdays at the Nashville Methodist Church with weigh-in beginning at 5:30 p.m. For more information, contact Jody Shaum at 330-378-5362.
