Everything is part of the ultimate plan

“I’ve had my moments, days in the sun. Moments I was second to none. Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn’t do.”

—Emerson Drive

I was talking to a good friend of mine, and he was talking about what he takes every day in order to keep his body from making too many of some kind of cell. In hindsight I should have kept my trap shut, but I asked why? He told me about something he has been dealing with for 12 years. I felt really bad, but then he said, “I don’t believe in coincidences Kyle. It is all a part of the plan.”

I automatically thought, what a great way to look at life. It is a gift to look at life in such a way that everything has a purpose behind it. We have been told since we were kids that everything happens for a reason. However, it is hard to see the reason behind everything. Sometimes we know almost immediately what the reason behind the event is, but other times we have to dig to find the purpose behind it.

I know that now in my life, I am trying to forgive people who have hurt me, and if I am being honest, it’s one of the most difficult things I have ever done in my life. I know someone who felt the need to make comments to me about my weight, but I don’t have a weight problem. It still bugs me because it is like they don’t have manners. No one should point out another person’s weight. It is not nice. I felt so bad about myself. Why are they picking on me?

I actually felt so bad for them, and I knew I needed to pray for them. However, deep inside of me, I just wanted them to hurt as much as they hurt me. Then I realized they must be hurting on the inside to behave in such a manner.

It has been said people are like sandpaper. What is the purpose of sandpaper? It smooths out the rough edges of wood. If I build a shelf and don’t smooth the edges, then when I touch it, I might bleed due to it being rough around the edges. The people we cannot stand are just smoothing us out. Our situations that seem hopeless are just smoothing us out. It’s all to help us become a better person. Everybody needs to grow, and the hard situations in our life help us grow the most.

We will never know how much we can take until we endure it. Yeah, life is unfair, but we can use the unfair moments to make us braver. The moments we thought were going to kill us only made us stronger. We should ask ourselves next time what kind of lesson we can learn, instead of complaining.
