Have a very merry Christmas

“Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection.” — Winston Churchill.

I for one can’t believe it’s Christmas time again. It only seems like yesterday we were wishing everyone a happy new year; 2018 came and went so quickly it could make our heads spin. It’s like the old Tracey Lawrence song titled “Time Marches On.” “The only thing that stays the same is everything changes.”

With Christmas being here, it gives us time to think about others instead of ourselves, and it also gives us time to reflect on all the gracious gifts God himself has bestowed on all of us.

To be perfectly honest, I always look for God to do big dynamic things in my life, but I always miss the little things he does in my life. It would be nice if God would attach a neon sign to some of the little things he does and write “This is God” on it, that way I would get the message. See, I am just a human, and I say things happen by luck or chance when really it’s by God’s own hand.

The reason it is so important to remember what God has done for us is because Christmas is the time we remember Christ’s birth. Jesus was probably not born at this time of year. From what I hear, he was born in the spring or the fall. However, I think it is right to have a day to remember Jesus’ birth. I know one family that bakes a birthday cake in remembrance of Jesus’ birth. I think that is a nice Christmas tradition. Some people read the Christmas story to their family or just for themselves. I always give thanks to God for all of my loved ones.

When we gather together with our loved ones this Christmas, in a way we are praising God by enjoying the gift of family that he gave us. Yes, I will admit we might have family who are difficult, but God put them in our lives for a reason: to be loved. It is not about us this Christmas; it is about Christ’s love in our hearts.

Maybe it is time to forgive and forget or just bite our tongue if nothing else. However, forgive and forget it so much better. I absolutely hate to see families be at odds with one another. I can understand some things driving families apart, but so many families’ problems are really small and petty when we look back on them.

This Christmas we should throw off whatever is holding us back, agree to disagree or just make up our minds not to even touch some things that hurt. We need to be like Christ and love each other and remember it’s not about us this Christmas or even about other people. This Christmas it is all about Christ. Love one another as Christ loves us this Christmas.

From my family to yours, have a very merry Christmas this year.
