Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” —Matthew 19:14

We are all in one big mess as a world, and between the amount of information and people’s opinions of everything, it can be difficult at best to know who is right. I do my best to tune things out, but still the negative thoughts invade my mind. I wish some people would just keep their opinions to themselves. However, I find myself taking the bait and debating when I would be better off just keeping my mouth closed. We all know what it is like when we think we are right. We just keep trying to hammer home our point.

I am the kind of person who is constantly second-guessing myself and am not 100% sure about my choices. Like when Stacey and I got married, I had questions: Would I be a good husband. Do I make enough money? Will we buy a house before our wedding? Questions like those kept going around in my mind like a carousel stuck on go.

I know it is a sin to worry, but marriage is a pretty big step. My anxiety was, to say the least, through the roof, but it all worked out in the end.

It’s been years since Stacey and I said, “I do,” and it has been good. I wonder why in the world we have to make everything so complex. We love to make things harder than they have to be. How do I know that? Simple, because we keep on doing things the hard way. Some of us share our opinions so freely we upset other people. I am a pretty opinionated kind of guy, but lately I have been asking myself if I have to prove my intelligence to people.

I wonder what would happen if we would adopt child-like faith. What would it look like? What are the characteristics of a child? They all look to their parents for help. Do we look to God for help? We love to think we are smart enough to handle it all. Let me pop the bubble: We are not that smart. Only God knows what the future holds for us, so worrying will not help us one bit. We just need to let it go and let God.

Little children ask anything of their parents. Now this goes back to worrying. We are so loved by God that he wants us to ask for anything we want. I have to laugh when people tell me it is wrong to be rich or to want anything. Jesus never said we shouldn’t have wants. He said we shouldn’t put them above him. We should just ask him if our dreams are what he wants for us. How simple would that be?

Everybody has wants. That is just the way God made us, but it is up to us to see if our wants are in alignment with God’s will. No, I don’t believe God is going to give us whatever we want, but I do believe in having an open relationship with him.

Have faith like a child this Christmas. Worry less and ask more. If the answer is no, at least we are building a father and child relationship with him. I wish all my readers and their families a very merry and blessed Christmas.
