“The season changes remind us of the ever-changing nature of life and the importance
of embracing it.”

As I sit and write this on a beautiful day, I am reminded of the seasons of life. Just yesterday on my way to church, I saw a few crocuses blooming. My first thought was I need to tell my mom — she always told me crocuses are one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring.

I personally love springtime because things start to come back to life. I love the smell of a freshly cut lawn. Boy my nose gets really happy when the grass has just been mowed. My wife loves to go to a greenhouse and pick out pretty flowers to put in the ground. It makes her heart sing.

In our life we get new opportunities, new ideas, meet new people and learn new ways of doing things. That is the spring of life, an end to the dark days of winter and time to bring in the light. We find hope and joy in the simple things of life. Yes, there can be sorrow, but when we focus on the joy, the sorrow slips away. Babies are being born, our own or to family and friends. People get married, and new life begins.

My idea of summer is having fun with what we have. It gets hot and humid out, but we enjoy going out with no coat. Take a dip in the pool and get refreshed. We all can use a time of refreshment to enjoy the fruits of our labors. We can just work hard for so long, and then we must relax and take it all in. If all we do is push ourselves, then we will just get worked into a state of depression. Take time to step back and give yourself a pat on the back.

I love seeing the leaves change colors in the fall. If spring is when things come to life, then fall reveals their true nature. It’s a season of maturing, where the fair-weather friends fall away. We never truly know who our friends are until the potholes come on the road. People will either be with us or they won’t. It can really hurt, but just like the leaves, they are showing different colors. They are getting ready to fall off so new ones can grow.

No one likes the winter of life — the dark time when we cry out for help and it seems like our cry is falling on deaf ears. Things we’ve been hoping for, we now realize may never be. It’s OK to be sad, mourn and be depressed for a time. Maybe we just need a friend or a pastor to talk to, so make that call to someone who can say I love you with their actions. If need be, make a counseling appointment with someone who is trained to help people look at the problems of life in a new way. I love what one counselor told me. He helps people remove the junk so they can see Jesus.

Just remember, after winter always comes spring.
