Has anyone else noticed how quickly 2023 went rushing by?

Spring and summer seemed to fly by, and in no time at all, fall and winter were here. It seemed that one day we were mowing our lawns and pulling weeds out of our gardens and the next day we were clearing frost off our car windshields. We were spending evenings on our porch swatting at pesky flies and watching the flowers in our gardens bloom. Then in a few blinks of our eyes, we went from sweaters to jackets just to walk outside.

Though our house enjoys the warmer months, December is probably her very favorite month of the year. That is when she gets all decked out in her holiday finery.

All houses love being dressed up and given lots of attention. A neighborhood we once visited had residents who competed with each other every year trying to outdo the other
houses on their block with elaborate décor.

That resulted in every house in the neighborhood being done up to the highest level. The lights on each house were so many and so bright that the effect was a garishly glowing neighborhood that could be seen for at least a mile and probably more. It was just amazing.

Our house has always had a wreath hung on her front door, a decorated tree on the front lawn and a few strings of lights outlining her porch. It looks festive, and it makes our house happy. Our decorations aren’t lavish, but our place seems content with our efforts.

But like many homeowners, January is the dedecorating month. Once all the decorations are taken down and packed away, our poor house looks downright naked.

Actually, our place is rather embarrassed by her nakedness. I have come up with the idea of putting little potted evergreen bushes on her porch. Hopefully, those little
bushes ease our place’s embarrassment. Hope that makes her feel better.

Happy New Year everyone.
