The Dover Exchange Club is continuing its support of the Dover Caring Kids (Do.C.K.) program at Dover Middle School by contributing $1,500 to help fund the activities during this school year. According to Ron Bond, Dover Middle School principal, the program was started in the early ’90s as a way to encourage middle school students to become involved in the community. By being involved in Do.C.K. activities throughout the school year, the students earn points for T-shirts and trips sponsored by the school. Community activities include such things as raking leaves in the fall for senior citizens, a Christmas breakfast for seniors, spending time at nursing homes by playing cards, reading books, and other games with the residents, and visiting the senior center. This past fall, more than 100 yards were raked by the Do.C.K. students. Based on the number of hours the students put into community service, they receive points that enable the student to offset the individual cost for trips to sixth-grade camp, Washington, D.C., Cedar Point or pro sports games. The contribution by the Exchange Club will assist the school in sponsoring the activities of the students and offset the cost of the senior citizen breakfast and other expenses. Exchange, America’s Service Club, is a group of community minded individuals working together to make communities better places to live through programs of service in Americanism, community service, youth activities, and its national project, the prevention of child abuse.
