Garaway board approves contracts, facility upgrades
The Garaway Board of Education accepted the resignations of Curtis Fisher, principal at Dundee and Miller Avenue elementary schools, effective July 31, and Sara Roach, Ragersville Elementary second grade teacher, effective at the end of the school year.
Later during the June 19 special meeting, three-year contracts were granted to Curtis Fisher as director of special education and federal programs and Sara Roach as principal of Dundee and Miller Avenue elementary schools.
Prior to the hiring of Fisher and Roach, the board accepted the resignations of Mollie Parisi, director of special education and federal programs; Laura Goodall, district speech language pathologist; and Hailey Powell, language arts teacher at Dundee for fourth grade through sixth grade, all effective at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
Other business
The board accepted the resignation for the retirement of Linda Hochstetler, elementary reading specialist/wellness support, effective at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
The board approved a contract with Walnut Creek Glass for the replacement project for the aging storefront window located on the north side of Garaway High School at a cost of $67,636. These are original windows, and the new windows will be double-paned.
The board entered into a contract with Cardinal Group for tile abatement and removal in six classrooms at the Garaway seventh grade through 12th grade building at a cost of $16,500.
The board approved a contract with Country Floors Warehouse for the leveling and tire replacement in six classrooms at Garaway High School at a cost of $20,000. The floors are sinking and will be releveled.
The board entered into a contract with Tate Service for installation of a mini split system in the multi-handicapped classroom for medical purposes at a cost of $6,250.
The board agreed to purchase six sets of toilet partitions for the Garaway seventh grade through 12th grade building from Midland Brightwood at a cost of $6,645.
The board passed a resolution to create a Capital Projects Fund as authorized by Ohio Revised Code for the purposes of accumulating resources for the acquisition, construct or improvement of fixed assets including motor vehicles.
The board transferred $9,500,000 from the general fund to Capital Projects Fund.
The board approved a contract addendum for the 2025-26 school year for Kevin Roberts, transportation supervisor; Michael Maurer, buildings and grounds coordinator; and Melissa Ripple, health care professional.
The board granted a one-year contract to Madison Wager, special services aide.
The board approved one-year supplemental coaching contracts to Jason Wallick and Maguire Morris, summer strength (split stipend); Kenneth Jarvis, boys golf assistant; Kyle Dunn, middle school cross country; Karianne Gerber, Julie Rest and Bailie Donley, all JV volleyball (split stipends); Clay Hershberger, freshman volleyball; and Emmerson Wallick, seventh grade volleyball.
The next meeting will be July 21 at 6 p.m. in the high school library, 146 Dover Road NW, Sugarcreek.
