Yoder to fill vacancy on WH school board
The West Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met Monday, Oct. 21 at Millersburg Elementary for an executive session and a regular meeting.
During the meeting Joel Yoder was appointed to fill Eric Strouse’s vacant board seat.
“We had four very qualified people that wanted to be on the West Holmes school board,” said Pat Sage, board president. “It was a difficult decision as each one had something that would contribute to being an excellent board member. As a group we then decided how they could work together with us as we make educational decisions. Joel Yoder stood out as an excellent choice.”
The board also did the following during the meeting:
—Approved moving high school graduation from Friday, May 23, 2025, to Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11 a.m.
—Approved the Intertek PSI agreement for construction materials testing and special inspection services.
—Approved a resolution nominating board member Tina Zickefoose for the Ohio School Boards Association’s Recognition Award.
—Approved the hiring of Tina Hall, cook, effective Oct. 7.
—Approved the resignations of Slade Barnes, bus driver, effective Oct. 4; Courtney Shaffer, athletic trainer, effective Nov. 9; and Brittany Akers, cook, effective Sept. 25.
—Approved 27 supplemental positions including Ben Belden, varsity boys basketball head coach; Lindsy Belden, varsity girls basketball head coach; Scott Vaughn, varsity wrestling head coach; Raven Wilcox, varsity cheerleading head coach; and Chris Young, varsity bowling head coach.
Other information
Millersburg Elementary Principal Renee Woods recognized third-grade students Mason Hernandez, Ben Kaster, Ginnie Roland and Knox Wengerd for perfect state testing math scores; fourth-grade student Moira Steiner for perfect state testing math and reading scores; and fifth-grade student Jolie Dreher for perfect state testing math score.
Lakeville Elementary thanked several Wooster Community Hospital nurses for donating school supplies for use by Lakeville students.
Millersburg Elementary thanked its students and their families for the donations toward its hurricane relief coin challenge. They raised $3,700 in five days. The high school and middle school contributed another $1,100 for a total of $4,800. The money was donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Henderson County in Asheville, North Carolina. They established an emergency relief fund, which will be used to help families of the club who have been affected by Hurricane Helene.
Services this fund can support will include clothing and personal item replacement, rent and housing assistance, food and necessities, emergency childcare services, and replacement or repair of flooded vehicles.
Millersburg Elementary also thanked the Park National Bank employees who counted the change daily.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18 at Lakeville Elementary.
