The Orrville School Board met for its regular meeting on April 16 in the library of Orrville High School. At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Greg Roadruck was recognized by Reno Contipelli of The Ohio School Board Association, Northeast Region, for his 35 years of board service. OHS Spanish teacher Joelle Robertson and two of her students, Jennifer Lopez-Irias and Matthew Butram, presented a project done in Spanish class to the board.

The board discussed a variety of personnel matters for the upcoming school year including the approval of one-, two- and three-year contract positions for a variety of areas across the district. The board also voted to approve handbooks for all schools in the district and a new Spanish curriculum.

Based on the recommendation of interim Superintendent Brett Lanz and incoming Superintendent Dr. David Toth, the board approved the creation of a new position titled career-readiness coach.

“This is something that has been discussed for some time now, and this is a good time to get this position in place here in Orrville,” said Pat Lorson, board president. “Ohio now has a Department of Education and Workforce. The governor has talked extensively about education and specifically about career readiness. There are numerous opportunities for students to consider when they look forward to a career.

“I am happy we will have a career-readiness coach in place for the start of the 2024-25 school year. I believe it will be a good fit here, will add value for our district and provide benefit to our students.”

In other news within the district, Orrville High School Principal Timothy Adams has been hired by Chippewa Local Schools as the new principal for Chippewa Junior/Senior High School for the 2024-25 school year. Adams is a 1999 alum of Chippewa High School.

Toth was approved to begin his superintendency 10 days prior to his original start date to ensure a smooth transition between him and Lanz, whose resignation will be effective July 31.

The next meeting of the Orrville Board of Education is scheduled for May 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the OHS library.
