Schlabach receives Victor Gerber music scholarship
Brooklyn Schlabach, a recent Waynedale graduate, is the 2022 recipient of the Victor Gerber Memorial Music Scholarship.
The Orrville Community Chorus Board of Trustees announced the 2022 recipient of the Victor Gerber Memorial Music Scholarship.
This year’s recipient is Brooklyn Schlabach, a graduate of Waynedale High School. She has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship. She is the daughter of Karl and Jolene Schlabach. Schlabach’s future plans include pursuing a degree in music education at the University of Mount Union.
Schlabach was active in the Waynedale High School Music Department as a member of the marching and concert bands, the choir, and the Goldenaires. She also had lead roles in three musicals.
Extracurricular activities included National Honor Society, basketball, sixth-grade camp counselor and the Fellowship of Christian Students. Schlabach played softball on both varsity and travel teams and was an umpire in recreational softball leagues.
Scholarships are awarded to seniors graduating from a Wayne County high school who demonstrate outstanding participation in music activities, academic achievement and leadership and who will begin post-secondary education in the fall following graduation. Since the inception of this award in 2003, thirty-seven scholarships totaling $38,000 have been presented to students representing 10 Wayne County school districts.
Proceeds from the Orrville Community Chorus’ annual presentation of “Messiah” by George Frideric Handel fund the scholarship. This scholarship honors Victor Gerber, former music director for the Dalton Local Schools and the founder and former director of the Orrville Community Chorus.
The 2022 performance of “Messiah” by the Orrville Community Chorus is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at Central Christian School, 3970 Kidron Road, Kidron.
