The Buckeye Career Center Foundation, which awards scholarships to BCC seniors each year, is now accepting donations to honor the late Mrs. Shannon Wigfield. Contributions in Wigfield’s name will be earmarked toward the Shannon Wigfield Memorial Scholarship. This effort began with a request from the community.

Wigfield was a 24-year staff member at BCC, teaching English to countless BCC students over the years. She was killed in the Nov. 14 bus crash involving the Tusky Valley band. Wigfield is remembered for her smile, laugh and personality. She took pride in coordinating prom court nominations and crownings each year and chaperoned numerous field trips with BCC students.

She was well-regarded by her students, who lovingly called her “Wiggy,” as she made lifelong bonds with those she taught over the years. Wigfield is survived by her husband and three children.

Scholarships awarded by the Buckeye Foundation may be used for tools of the trades or further education. Last year the Buckeye Foundation awarded twenty-one $2,500 scholarships to BCC seniors. Anyone interested in contributing to the Shannon Wigfield Memorial or other scholarships awarded yearly by the foundation can mail their earmarked donation to Buckeye Career Center Foundation, P.O. Box 355, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
