The Tuscarawas County Park Department and the Canal Lands Development Committee will host their annual Canal Tavern 5k Run & Walk on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. on the Canal Lands Towpath Trail between Fort Laurens in Bolivar and the Canal Lands Park trailhead at Zoar.

All proceeds from the event are used for the maintenance and development of the Canal Lands Towpath Trail in Tuscarawas County. Due to the number of participants, this section of trail will be closed to the public on Sunday, Sept. 1 from 1-2 p.m. to avoid congestion.

There will be free shuttles from the Canal Tavern of Zoar to the starting line at Fort Laurens, leaving at noon and 12:30 p.m.

Race amenities include a ring-spun poly/cotton race T-shirt and an Octoberfest-style celebration on the patio of the Canal Tavern of Zoar, complete with food and a complimentary draft beer/soft drink for race participants. Awards will be presented to the top-three men, top-three women and top-three finishers in each age group.

Registration is $25. Registration forms can be downloaded from the Park Department website at www.tuscparks.com or from their Facebook at www.facebook.com/tuscparks. Electronic registration is available at www.runsignup.com/Race/OH/Bolivar/CanalTavernofZoar5KRunandWalk.
