One surefire way to bring the hungry masses to your group is to open up the spit and let the savory aroma of freshly barbecued chicken waft through the air. That is exactly what will take place June 19 when locals won’t have to look far to find a perfect main course.

Scouters of Holmes County held its May board meeting virtually with the monthly meeting taking on a tasty topic. The group’s main focus was to mesh out plans for the annual chicken barbecue fundraiser.

“I’ve been cooking chicken for years as part of the Shreve Business Association. We are bringing that great taste to Holmes County and hope residents come out to enjoy take-out barbecue,” said Kevin Mullet, vice president.

Scouters of Holmes County plans to cook 500 chicken halves and have fresh, hot chicken available at two locations during the June 19 fundraiser, which will begin at 11 a.m. at both locations and will go until all of the chicken is sold out.

“We are setting up at the Crissy Memorial Pool parking lot and the old Millersburg Burger King parking lot,” Mullet said. “Having a west and south location makes it super simple for folks to drive through and get chicken, and customers don’t even have to get out of their cars.”

Cost for the chicken halves is by donation, and no sides will be served.

As a reminder, 5% of all donations will go to a high-adventure sponsorship fund to help local youth who participate in this type of experience.

Another part of the fundraiser is 5% of this event and all future donations will be earmarked for the capital projects fund including a future Scout camp in Holmes County. The group has a long-term goal of someday getting property where they can operate a camp, provide outdoor education and have a meeting hall dubbed the “Eagles Nest.”
