The County Line Historical Society will host Robert Haag for a historical program on “Fashion and the Conquest of North America” on April 17 at 1 p.m. at the Shreve Presbyterian Church, 343 N. Market St., Shreve.

Haag of Doylestown began his study of fashion’s contribution to the conquest of North America out of an interest in his daughter Kristine’s career as a costume designer in the film industry. This is a talk about history that is generally not acknowledged today and will bring to light the influence of European fashions and the fur trade of North America.

Haag will explain the fur trade in North America and its impact on the native people beginning with the mini ice age that impacted the globe between 1350 and 1850. The why, where and when of this history will be outlined with high points of the historical information brought to light.

A member of the Archaeological Society of Ohio for more than 40 years, Haag has done numerous talks on prehistoric people’s artifacts and habitations found throughout Ohio. He has written four books on the topics and many articles for Ohio Archaeologist magazine. Although known more for his talks and knowledge of relics and native trails, his search for knowledge has been lengthy and diverse.

The talk is free and open to the public, and the governor's mandate on masks and social distance will be observed.
