Dalton Village Council met Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Dalton Village Hall and discussed several issues.

The council voted to approve the sale of certain items from the police and street departments on www.govdeals.com. Items that will be listed for sale include the back seat of a police cruiser, light poles, street lights, a control box for lights minus the electrical panel, and a power washer.

Council member Patrick Sword, who is the village representative on the East Wayne Fire District, noted the finance committee’s recommendation to have legal representation at remaining EWFD meetings as the fire district winds down. There was some discussion about this issue as council member Blake Nussbaum expressed concerns about funding attorneys fees in general but conceded representation at the district meetings is warranted. The vote to approve that expenditure was unanimous.

Additional discussion about the EWFD revolved around the wrapping up of the relationship between the EWFD and the village. An inventory of assets was completed with a value of $1.2 million. The EWFD must designate how records will be stored once the district is dissolved. Options include storing them in Marshallville or Dalton or digitizing them. The village solicitor is to report back to council at the October meeting on the responsibilities of being the repository of such records.

There are additional loose ends that must be tied up regarding the winding down of the EWFD: the pending matter of the appointment of a receiver, determining equipment needs from the new Dalton VFD, awaiting grant status and determining the status of levy funds from the EWFD levy. The Dalton VFD will be ready to begin operations on Jan. 1.

The council also approved resolutions regarding various budget and procedural items and approval for an Ohio Department of Transportation project.
