United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties recently announced the release of its 2024 request for proposals for the annual community grant funding process it hosts each year. This year UWWH will offer grant funding toward needs-based requests. In the last decade, UWWH has granted over $12 million to solving local issues through partnerships with local nonprofits. The RFP opened Oct. 1 and will close Dec. 15.

Through its mission of mobilizing community resources to measurably improve the lives of people in the community, UWWH unites community partners and citizens through this grant funding process each year. Completed grants are reviewed by a group of community investment team volunteers who are UWWH donors. Upon review of all applications, this group of volunteers makes a funding recommendation to the UWWH Board of Directors.

In part with its mission, UWWH has chosen to invest in programs in Wayne and Holmes counties that seek to improve the lives of residents, often those who are employed but still are income constrained. The four areas of focus UWWH has considered are health/mental health/substance abuse treatment, safety net, workforce development and youth development. Grant applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to apply:

—Be an organization meeting one of the following criteria: A 501(c)(3) nonprofit currently registered with the secretary of state of Ohio or a governmental organization such as public education institutions, voluntary associations or a faith-based community.

—Run by a volunteer board of directors, none of whom receives any remuneration from the organization.

—Currently located within and providing services in Wayne and/or Holmes counties.

A Q-and-A session on the application process will be held at UWWH, 215 S. Walnut St., Wooster, on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. Applicants are encouraged to attend. A zoom option is available. Call the office for details.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Dec. 15. Awards will be announced quarter one of 2024. Organizations that have questions may email or call Kayley Cox at kayley@uwwh.org or 330-264-5576. Applications are available at www.uwwh.org.
