The City of Wooster’s Fair Housing Office is providing an opportunity to learn about fair housing rights and how the city promotes fair housing in a training event on Monday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers, 538 N. Market St., Wooster.

This training event is available for any person or professional seeking to learn more about their rights and responsibilities concerning local, state and federal Fair Housing laws and also for any homeowner or small business landlord seeking information on economic development opportunities including tax-abatement programs and repair grants (grants limited to moderate-income households).

Housing discrimination is the denial of the equal opportunity to rent, purchase, finance or insure homes because of a person’s race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, military status, gender, familial status or disability. Whether a prospective resident searching for a new apartment or home or a landlord managing multiple properties, this lecture will share information about requirements trends occurring within our local area and answer questions individuals may have concerning Fair Housing.

The City of Wooster’s Fair Housing Office is always available to answer questions, share information about resources for those with concerns, arrange educational trainings or record complaints. It can be called at 330-263-5200 ext. 300.

More about the program is available online at www.woosteroh.com/Fair-Housing. For information on incentives on repairing homes, visit www.woosteroh.com/development, and information also is available about new 2020 opportunities such as CHIP (grants and home loans) and CRA (tax exemptions for homes).
