On July 17, Fort Laurens raised a new 13-star “Betsy Ross” flag to honor the site’s Revolutionary War heritage.

Custom-made by Annin Flagmakers of Coshocton, the 10-by-15-foot flag is visible from Interstate 77 just south of Exit 93 near Bolivar and Zoar.

“This new flag is a powerful reminder of Fort Laurens’ enduring legacy and the patriots who served here,” said Dante Weisend, site manager of Fort Laurens. “Its presence along the interstate connects the past with the present in a way that is both meaningful and visible.”

The project was made possible through the collaboration of several community partners. The Bolivar Fire Department installed a new cable for the flagpole, while representatives from the Ohio History Connection, Friends of Fort Laurens Foundation and Zoar Community Association helped raise the flag.
