Saturday, May 18 is National Visit Your Relatives Day.

What better way to take advantage of that day than by uniting with family and paying a visit to Historic Downtown Millersburg, where a day of fun, food, shopping and fellowship beckons to those partaking in HDM’s Vintage in the Village.

Historic Downtown Millersburg will provide a perfect way for families to enjoy a day out on the town from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors will find plenty of ways to take in all the sights and sounds of the event.

“It’s a special event, the perfect way to spend a day with family or friends and just enjoy a day together while enjoying everything we have to offer here in Millersburg,” said HDM Director Taylor Sigler, who said she is excited to host her inaugural Vintage in the Village outing as the new HDM director.

HDM Vintage in the Village is a day filled with antique vendors and artisan demonstrations that highlight some of the old-fashioned arts that go with the vintage items dotting downtown Millersburg’s streets surrounding the courthouse.

In addition, there is plenty to eat, both on the street and in the HDM restaurants, including food trucks and the Millersburg Coffee truck, making it an ideal one-day getaway. Plus, the Millersburg Lions will host a chicken barbecue starting at 11 a.m., with limited meals available.

“We’ve got about 20 great vendors, and I’m really excited with this year’s event because we have some very unique vendors and demonstrations for people to enjoy,” Sigler said.

Vintage in the Village features many types of collectibles including antiques, recycled items, upcycled items, glassware and metal lawn art. Just as it has for more than a decade, Vintage in the Village encompasses the downtown area, centering around the Holmes County Courthouse lawn and spreading through alleys and parking lots.

Live music on the courthouse patio will take place from 2-4 p.m., allowing people to relax and soak in the downtown aura.

Not only do the vendors and demonstrators show up in force, but the local merchants also roll out the red carpet to make the day special.

“The downtown merchants go all out for this event, and they are very excited,” Sigler said. “Some have special events, and everyone really gears up to make the entire downtown area come to life in a neat way.”

While visitors can find plenty of purchases of whatever delights their hearts, they also can watch the many different artisans who will showcase their respective talents. Past demonstrators have included basket weaving, wood carving, looming, and other skilled laborers whose techniques and skills hearken back to an older time.

Sigler said with everything there is to experience, vendors and demonstrators invite the public to ask questions and chat.

Another addition to the event is the Classic Cruisers Car Show, which will be located on Monroe Street to the south of the courthouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be plenty of antique and vintage cars on display, and a disc jockey will spin tunes related to the old days of rock ‘n’ roll.

Vintage in the Village is an event that ushers people back into eras gone by, and with it being an all-day event, there’s plenty of time to peruse it all and soak in the atmosphere.
