HCA taking sign-ups for choir, Spanish classes
A pair of exciting vocal opportunities are now available for the public to join, with both adults and teens having a chance for their voices to be heard at Holmes Center for the Arts.
The center is now taking sign-ups for the HCA choir and Spanish Classes.
According to Holley Johnson, HCA director, the Holmes Center for the Art’s choir is a great way to meet new people while doing something you love.
The choir will be directed by Timothy Frye, who graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Bowling Green State University and a Music Education and has a Vocal Master of Music from the University of Arizona.
“We are excited to bring Mr. Frye, who has over 40 years of teaching, performing and conducting experience, to Holmes County,” Johnson said.
Classes start Oct. 10 and will be every Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. This session will cost $60 for all eight weeks. There also will be a Christmas and seasonal music performance at Ohio Star Theater before the Nutcracker performances the weekend of Dec. 8-10.

The second option is a new and creative way to learn a new language, as Holmes Center for the Arts is now offering an intro/beginner-level course in Spanish.
“It’s a great way to start learning or prepare for mission trips, vacations or even just to communicate better with neighbors or friends,” Johnson said.
These classes are taught by Colette Propri, who lives on a small farm in Tuscarawas County. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science and Italian, with a minor in Spanish from Kent State University (class of 1993). She has worked as a language tutor at Kent State University for both Italian and Spanish and has taught Italian as a substitute teacher at Kent State.
Spanish classes will be held every Monday from 5:15-6:45 p.m. from Oct. 9 to Nov. 13. The tuition will be $60 for six weeks, plus $18 for a Spanish book.
