New Cumberland School-Warren Township One Room Schools hold 60th reunion

                        
The 60th reunion of the New Cumberland School-Warren Township One Room Schools was held Sept. 13, in the New Cumberland Community Center with a covered dish dinner. Seventy-six former class members and guests of all ages attended.
Lee Tremba of Dover, who taught at New Cumberland, was the only teacher present. A candlelight memorial prayer was held for deceased class members by Jonathan Banker of Dover and Darlene Swinderman of New Philadelphia. Banker gave the invocation also.
At the start of the business meeting, Ricky Burns, 7, of Jewett-Scio; T.J. Snyder, 7, of Uhrichsville; and Jaden Benjamin, 8, of New Philadelphia, the youngest members present, held flags and led the group in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
The history of the town and the different locations of the schools was read by Lillian Aubihl of Dover. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were given by Mildred Felgenhauer of Sherrodsville.
The 91st birthday of Dave Felganhauer of Sherrodsville was celebrated with the song On Top of Old Frosty. Oldest members present were John Dutton and Jean Davis, both 93. Hilarious readings were given by Sharon Work of Uhrichsville and Jonathan Banker. A poem was written and recited by Lillian Aubihl.
A song, Battle Hymn of Aging, was sung by Mary Lee Monte, president, assisted by Ashley Luyster and Tiffany Morris, with the entire group singing the chorus.
Prizes were won by June Morris of Jewett-Scio, Pat Felgenhauer and Irma Thomas of Sherrodsville, Pauline Penso of New Cumberland, and Rena Haney and Hugh Miskiman of New Philadelphia.
Officers for next year are Mary Lee Monte, president; Darlene Swinderman, vice president; and Lillian Aubihl, secretary/treasurer.
The next reunion will be in the New Cumberland Community Center on Sept. 12, 2010.
