United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties, in partnership with Wayne County Public Library, will hold Reading Under the Lights at seven area school districts.

Reading Under the Lights is a literacy event that encourages children to read at their highest potential by providing access to books and allowing the attending students to choose which books they want to keep and read. These events focus on maintaining student reading comprehension year round and provide access to books for every child regardless of socio-economic status. RUL ensures every attending student receives multiple free books of their choosing.

RUL events in 2024 will take place at the following schools on May 8 and 9: Northwestern Local Schools, Norwayne Local Schools, Triway Local Schools and Wooster City Schools. New to this year’s RUL literacy event is Green/Smithville Local Schools with its event in September, along with those in Rittman Exempted Village and Southeast Local Schools.

United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties is seeking financial sponsorships and donations for each event, made free for attendees. Community sponsorships and donations are what make these literacy events such a success. A variety of sponsorship levels are available for each school or can be spread across all participating schools. For more information about becoming a RUL sponsor, call or email Kayley Cox at 330-264-5639 or kayley@uwwh.org.
