Healthy living starts with positive aging. The Falls Prevention Program of Holmes & Wayne, under the direction of the Holmes County General Health District and the Standing Against Falls Coalition, is sponsoring a Positive Aging Workshop series beginning Wednesday, May 14 to celebrate Older Americans Month.

The 60 and over population is encouraged to attend, along with caregivers, adult children and anyone interested in learning what healthy, positive aging looks like. In each workshop session, attendees will be provided with further life tools to continue to guide individuals into healthy and safe aging. The workshops are free.

The workshops will be held in the second-floor conference room at the Holmes County General Health District, 2600 Glen Drive, Millersburg, from 1-3 p.m. Each workshop will consist of 2 one-hour sessions. Each session will have topics about positive aging and healthy living as individuals age.

Speakers represent agencies from Holmes and Wayne counties and the state of Ohio. Individuals are asked to preregister for workshops they plan on attending.

The afternoon will begin with session one, Talking with Your Doctor, from 1-2 p.m. Led by Dr. Janet Dailey of Pomerene Hospital, this session will focus on the importance of open, honest communication between patients and their physicians. Attendees will learn how preparing for a doctor’s visit can make a meaningful difference in health outcomes, especially as individuals age.

Session two, Meditation and Stress Relief, will run from 2-3 p.m. Rhiannon Whalen-Harris, M.Ed., director of community, prevention and victim services at One-Eighty, will guide participants through mindfulness practices. The session aims to help reduce stress, improve mental clarity and enhance overall well-being.
