A weekend full of racing action greeted fans at the annual Weekend on the Hill featuring full shows including the Holmes Tire Late Model $5,000 to win on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Hilltop Speedway.

Friday action saw Travis Hare capture the Crozier Welding trucks race. Among the 25 Bugs-R-Gone modifieds entrants, Kyle Moore would emerge victorious. A full field of Snyder Hot Shot Truck and Trailer Repair modlites would run hot with Jimmy Smith, Darrell Mayer and Blake Morris each picking up the win, setting the field for their feature Saturday night. Jon Preston would pick up the Never Have I Ever win.

Friday night’s events would end with Short Track Safety Team mini stock heat races with wins going to Doug Hensel, Travis Hutten and Tyler Parsons. Travis Hutten would claim the Never Have I Ever win.

That ushered in the big action on Saturday night, beginning with the Crozier Welding trucks running a feature only. Dwayne Powell claimed the lead with one lap down as Rolly Heyder would make his way from fifth to second by lap two. Heyder was all over Powell’s bumper as caution would come out with two laps to go.

Slow to the restart, Powell would take the lead. However, he would have troubles off turn four, and Heyder would use it to his advantage, taking the lead at the white flag. Powell would charge back but would be unable to surpass as Heyder would go on to pick up the feature win. Third went to Hare, fourth to Darek Cordia and fifth to Chad Squires.

Next to hit the track were the Holmes Tire late models with a field of 26. Setting fast time was Cody Scott with a 14.460. Heat race winners were Freddie Carpenter, Brandon Francis and Corey Conley with Rick Mardis picking up the last-chance race.

With the field set, Carpenter and Francis would bring the field to the start of their $5,000 to win Holmes Tire King of the Hill, a 40-lap feature event. As the green dropped, Carpenter would jump out front of the field as Francis and Conley battled it out side by side for second. Ten laps down, Carpenter would begin to navigate lap traffic as Conley made a charge to battle back under Burdette to reclaim third with 11 laps in.

Lap after lap, Conley would work the bumper of Francis, and coming into lap 34, Conley would secure second from Francis. However, he would be unable to run down Carpenter, and the $5,000 to win King of the Hill went to "Fast Freddie Carpenter." Rounding out the top five were Conley, Francis, Burdette and Justin Chance.

The Bugs-R-Gone modifieds ran a second full show with Cody Parker setting fast time at 16.392. Heat race winners were Jimmy Smith, Kyle Moore and Ty Rhodes with Pete Caplinger picking up the last-chance race. With 16 laps down, Robin Duston would make his presence known as he would battle the bumper of Parker for third. Back-to-back cautions would set up the restart with two to go.

Slow back to green, Moore would get the run on Rhodes to take the lead and ultimately pick up the win on back-to-back nights. Rhodes was followed by Parker, Smith and Duston.

Rolling out onto the track next were the modlites, which had their feature set from Friday’s events with Jimmy Smith and Levi Lease on the front row. With the drop of the green, Smith would take a familiar position out front of the field as Tim Callahan, Lease and Blake Morris battled it out for second. Reece Bollinger would work his way up to fourth with eight laps down just as the caution would fly.

With 10 laps down, Bollinger would work his way around Lease to secure second. Fourteen laps down, caution would bunch the field up once again. Smith set the pace to the green and would retain the top spot with Bollinger looking in. Third went to Blake Morris, fourth to Joe Burkhead and fifth to "Cotton Eyed Joe."

The street stock division featured two heat races with wins going to Kyle Moore and Gary Hensel, Jr., setting the night’s front row for their 15-lap feature. Moore would take the early lead as a three-wide battle for second would ensue with Brad Hensel securing it with one lap down. Hensel would be unable to surpass as Moore would go on to pick up back-to-back wins on the night. Jeff Lanham, John Wilson and Mark Baier would round out the top five.

The Short Track Safety Team mini stocks would round out the events for the Weekend on the Hill with their b-main, which was picked up by Robert Searls. Pole sitter Doug Hensel jumped out front as Travis Hutten drove his way to second around John Wheeler. Billy Parsons began working his way through the field up to second with seven laps down. With four laps to go, caution would come out once again, setting up the restart with Hensel inside and Parsons outside.

Back under green, Hensel would remain out front as Parsons and Hutten battled it out for second. Hensel led every lap green to checkered to pick up the win, followed by Parsons, Hutten, Darrin Thornsley and John Wheeler.
