BSA Buckeye Council gains new leadership
Jesse Roper II will assume the position of Scout executive of the Buckeye Council, effective Nov. 1.
Roper II began his Scouting career as learning for life/exploring executive at the Dan Beard Council in Cincinnati, Ohio. He moved on to become the district director and later field director with the Dan Beard Council. He was promoted to director of field service of the Dan Beard Council and on to membership growth coach at the National Service Center in Irving, Texas. He was raised in Springfield, Ohio.
Roper II is replacing David P. Truax, who served the Buckeye Council as Scout executive for the past 10 years.
Truax has been a professional Scouter for almost 40 years and began his career in the Buckeye Council as a district executive in 1979. He then served as the council’s program director before being selected as the assistant Scout executive for the Johnny Appleseed Council, based in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1986. He was transferred to the Black Swamp Area Council in Findlay, Ohio, in 1992, where he served as field director, finance director and assistant Scout executive over a span of 12 years.
From 2004-06 he served as the director of support service in Cleveland and had been the Scout executive in the Buckeye council since 2006. Truax accepted the position of Boy Scout area director, covering the Michigan area.
The Buckeye Council serves Ashland, Carroll, Columbiana, Crawford, Holmes, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Stark, Tuscarawas, Wayne and Wyandot counties in Ohio and a part of Hancock County, West Virginia. Annually over 10,000 young people are a part of its Boy Scout programs.
