According to the Association for Library Service to Children, learning to read begins before children start school. From the time they are infants, children learn language and other important skills that will help them learn to read. Developing early literacy skills makes it easier for children to learn to read once they begin school.

County library children’s services manager Linda Uhler said this is why the county library offers so many opportunities for families with children birth to age 5 to attend interactive story times.

“We’ve tried to make a variety of options available for families to attend story time this summer,” Uhler said. “We are continuing to offer a weekly virtual story time on Monday mornings at 10:30 a.m. on Zoom for those who aren’t comfortable attending things in person just yet, and we are also offering a variety of in-person story times across the county throughout the summer months.”

Weekly in-person family story times will be offered at the County Library System’s four branches in Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek and Tuscarawas from June 9 through July 29.

In addition to ongoing family story times, specialty story times will be held throughout the summer.

Specialty in-person story times include the following:

—Tails and Tales Storytime, Bolivar Branch, 433 W. Water St. in Bolivar, Thursday, June 17 at 11 a.m. (limit 10).

—Fairy Tale LIVE, Strasburg Branch, 356 Fifth St. SW in Strasburg, Tuesday, June 22 at 10 a.m. (limit 10).

—Storytime at the Park, Tuscora Park, 161 Tuscora Park NW in New Philadelphia, Thursdays, June 24 and July 22 at 11 a.m. (limit 20).

—Safari LIVE, Strasburg Branch, Tuesday, July 6 at 10 a.m. (limit 10).

—Storytime at Zoar Gardens, 198 E. Third St. in Zoar, every Wednesday, July 7-28 at 11:30 a.m. (limit 30).

—Tails and Tales Storytime, Bolivar Branch, Thursday, July 8 at 11 a.m. (limit 10).

Space is limited for these programs, and registration is required. Interested parties can register by visiting the library’s online event calendar at www.tusclibrary.org or by calling 330-364-4474.
