The Holmes County District Public Library has events and programs scheduled for December.

                        

The Holmes County District Public Library has announced its December events and programs, offering activities for all ages throughout the holiday season. Registration is required for some programs, and more information is available by visiting the library or calling 330-674-5972.

Teens can get creative with a December craft kit available at the Central Library. The kit includes supplies to make an ugly Christmas sweater ornament.

On Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m., Chris Hart will present Creating the Carol at the Central Library. This first-person narrative explores the inspirations behind Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” including the real-life characters and settings that shaped the Yuletide classic. Registration is required.

Story time sessions will be held at the East Branch Library on Wednesdays, Dec. 4 and 11 at 10:30 a.m. and at the Central Library on Fridays, Dec. 6 and 13 at 10:30 a.m. Designed for children age 2-5 with an accompanying adult, these sessions feature stories, songs and activities.

Following the Friday story time sessions at the Central Library, the Little Learners Playgroup will begin at 11 a.m. Children up to age 5, accompanied by an adult, can participate in activities that promote reading and social skills. Snacks will be provided.

On Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m., OSU Extension Services educator Kate Shumaker will lead a holiday craft session at the Central Library. Registration is required.

Families with children age 6-12 are invited to the Book Quest Club on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Library. December’s theme, “Holly Jolly Reads!,” will explore holiday-related books for gift ideas, and participants will create a holiday ornament. Registration is required.

The Central Library will host an educational program on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 5:30 p.m. Jay Regallis, a volunteer and community liaison with the Alzheimer’s Association, will present Ten Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s, offering insights into identifying the early signs of the disease. Registration is required.

On Saturday, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to noon, children can participate in the Paws to Read program at the Central Library, where they can read aloud to certified therapy dogs from Caring Therapy Canines.

During winter break the Central Library will offer activities for children on Dec. 26, 27, 28, 30 and 31. Kids can drop by the children’s room during business hours to create crafts, play board games and build with LEGOs or magnetic tiles.

Families can end the month with a family movie matinee on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Central Library. The library will screen “The Wild Robot” (rated PG). Attendees are encouraged to bring a comfy chair or blanket, snacks and a drink with a lid. An adult must accompany children.
