May in Wooster has meant it’s time for Ladies Night Out for many years. The Main Street Wooster event will be held Thursday, May 22 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in downtown Wooster.

“This event features live music, shopping, dining and a fun-filled atmosphere,” said Kerri Manley, project manager at Main Street Wooster. “Participants are encouraged to register for a swag bag, which includes a passport to get filled for a chance to win a Wooster swag grand prize.”

Swag bags are given out at the start of the event at 4:30 p.m. near the pavilion at the parking lot. They’ll be available on a first come, first served basis to the first 400 participants. No preregistration is needed for the free event, which will take place rain or shine. Manley said most people get in line at 4 p.m. to wait for the bag.

Thirty-eight businesses will participate in Ladies Night Out. Many of them will offer a variety of free samples. Manley said Wooster resident Joe Villegas will DJ, playing music throughout the evening.

Those receiving a passport in the swag bag will be invited to visit 15 participating businesses and get the passport validated to enter to win one of two gift baskets filled with goodies from local businesses.

“The Golden Girls” theme was one of several selected by Manley. The winning theme was chosen by a committee filled with local community members from various industries.

“I think it’s a fun and unique theme,” Manley said. “It is an iconic show.”

While dressing for the theme is not required, it is greatly encouraged.

“It makes the event fun for everyone,” Manley said. “You can dress as one of ‘The Golden Girls’ characters or something tropical themed.”

Manley said an easy way to get into character is to try sunglasses, a sun hat, and/or something with bright colors and florals.

There will be food and drinks available for purchase from many of the downtown restaurants. Each attendee will get a map and a list of offerings for the evening.

Event sponsors are The Commercial and Savings Bank and Wooster Color Point. Main Street Wooster also is grateful to the Women’s Service Club of Wayne County for its help in distributing the swag bags. Find the event online at www.mainstreetwooster.org/ladies-night-out.

“The event is for anyone in the community,” Manley said. “We just want to encourage guests to have a fun time and enjoy the beautiful community we live in. The event is family-friendly, so kids can also attend.”
