Library to host Christmas in July Maker Expo
The Dover Public Library invites makers of all ages to the Christmas in July Maker Expo on Saturday, July 20 from 1-4 p.m. Members of the public are invited to explore the equipment available for use in the library’s Maker Lounge and to enter to win a door prize. Registration is not required. Interested patrons can call the library at 330-343-6123.
The Maker Lounge, sponsored by the Romich Foundation, features free-to-use equipment including a 3-D printer, a sublimation printer, a heat press, a Cricut Maker and an XTool laser engraver. The library also provides starting materials so patrons can experiment with different projects.
The Christmas in July Maker Expo will highlight customizable gift ideas that can be made in the Maker Lounge. Example projects, like ornaments, cards and personalized mugs, will be on display at the event. Participants also will have the opportunity to make their own custom projects.
“I’m excited to share ideas for how to use this space,” teen services manager Liz Strauss said. “The possibilities for custom creations are endless.”
The Maker Lounge is open Mondays from 1:30-5 p.m., Wednesdays from 2:30-6:30 p.m. and by appointment. Email Strauss at strausel@doverlibrary.org to set up an appointment or to get help with a specific project.
Donations from makers help keep starting materials in stock. Makers who have a specific project in mind are encouraged to bring their own materials.
The Maker Lounge is sponsored by the Romich Foundation, which provides financial support for STEAM initiatives and programs that promote, encourage and support entrepreneurship in Northeast Ohio. More information on the Romich Foundation can be found at https://romichfoundation.org/.
Additional support for the Maker Lounge has been provided by a 21st Century Grant with Dover High School, which supports creative learning opportunities outside of classroom walls.
The Dover Public Library is located at 525 N. Walnut St. in Dover.
