Using Pleasant Hill Lake Park just got even more fun for campers and day trippers who visit the picturesque haven in the heart of Mohican Country.

A ribbon cutting on Friday, July 14 officially opened the new amenities at Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District’s Pleasant Hill Lake Park.

The $1.1 million project includes a new playground, two pickleball courts, two cornhole courts and a basketball court. Nearby, a community fire ring with Adirondack chairs provides a spot to sit and take in the lake.

Before the event got started, the Loudonville Pickleball Organization was on hand to demonstrate the game and answer any questions from visitors. A small group gathered to observe some of the pickleball players in action.

Guests to the event then watched as Bryce the Eagle, the MWCD mascot, led the way in cutting the ribbon.

Before the ribbon cutting, Ryan McCleaster, MWCD chief of recreation, thanked guests, county and city officials, and the MWCD staff present for Friday’s event.

“A lot of hard work went into this, planning and building these amenities,” he said, expressing his thanks to those involved in bringing the project to life including Stanley Miller Construction, Environmental Design Group, and those involved with surveys and expressing opinions as to what should be incorporated into the park. “A lot went into this; we are really excited about it.”

He said other MWCD parks also will get enhancements.

“We’ve got a lot going on within the district, so please feel free to check out the other parks as well,” he said. “Be on the lookout for more of these projects. Charles Mill will be getting something soon. Seneca, Tappan, everyone is going to get some enhancements.”

The MWCD’s website said the amenities celebrated on Friday are part of the MWCD master plan, which invests approximately $195 million at Atwood, Charles Mill, Piedmont, Pleasant Hill, Seneca and Tappan lakes to improve infrastructure and construct new campground areas.

Dean Cassell was among those in attendance for the ribbon cutting and was impressed with the park. Cassell, who is from Cleveland, said it was his first time camping at Pleasant Hill Lake Park. He was camping with his significant other’s son Jackson and some of her family.

“It’s a beautiful place,” Cassell said, adding he found the staff at Pleasant Hill very friendly and accommodating.

Following the event, a cookout with cake and hot dogs was provided.
