The Scarf Project’s mission is to warm the world one scarf at a time. New scarves, hats, mittens and gloves have been gathered all year for the Scarf Bombing on Nov. 15 with a Nov. 16 rain date.

This year there are approximately 20 locations throughout Stark, Tuscarawas, Guernsey and Cuyahoga counties. The first year in 2016, there were 123 scarves and one location.

The goal has been to provide a tiny bit of help to those who can use help but won’t ask. The Scarf Project operates from 100 percent donations. Yarn is donated, which is distributed to individuals who make scarves, hats, mittens and gloves. The items are then hung in areas to be taken by those who need them, anonymously. There is a banner at each location that says, “Need a scarf, take a scarf. God bless.”

There was a distribution site in Alliance last year. Someone took a picture and posted it on Facebook. The site went viral in a matter of days. Two weeks ago the first Scarf Bombing took place from a group started in Australia by Joanne Lee.

There will be a Tag, Tuck, Match and Count event held at 730 Tuscarawas Ave. NW in New Philadelphia on Saturday, Oct. 5 at noon. Call Toni Kaltenbaugh at 330-432-1930 or email ScarfProject@outlook.com.

Donations of yarn or new items for the project are accepted at the above address all year. Email for the address of a drop-off location in Alliance.
