Starting in June 2025, two projects will impact travel on state Route 515 through Walnut Creek, leading to road closures.

These projects consist of a culvert replacement, a retaining wall in downtown Walnut Creek, and a major pavement rehabilitation project from just north of Walnut Street in Walnut Creek to the intersection of U.S. Route 62 and state Route 515.

The exact start dates in June are to be determined and will be announced at a future date.

Project locations and traffic impacts

—Walnut Creek retaining wall project: This project is located between Der Dutchman and the Carlisle Inn projects in Walnut Creek. It involves retaining wall replacement and drainage work. The closure duration will be 60 days.

—Major roadway rehabilitation project: A full-depth pavement project along a 5-mile section of state Route 515. The project includes full-depth pavement reclamation from Main Street in Walnut Creek through Trail to U.S. Route 62. The closure duration will be 75 days.

Detour information

The official detour for each closure is state Route 39 West to U.S. 62 East, U.S. 62 East back to state Route 515, and reverse.

Local access

While access to businesses, residences and properties will be maintained during the closure, ODOT advises travelers to expect slower traffic due to rough road conditions. Additionally, there may be brief stoppages when large equipment needs to be moved to facilitate traffic flow.

Businesses on the south side of the closure will be accessible from state Route 39. Businesses and residences to the north side of the closure will be accessible from Olde Pump Street. Access to Der Dutchman will be maintained on the rear side of the building off state Route 515.

Traffic must either detour via the official detour route or use an alternative route to access all other businesses. All other traffic is advised to use the official detour route.
