The Massillon Rotary Foundation awarded a grant of $16,871 to the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department for a Lucas Chest Compressor for the fire station. The award was presented at a meeting held last week by Dan Schwartz and Brandon Bucker, from the Lucas Company, and Richard Regula, Stark County commissioner. The funds paid the total cost of the unit.

Fire Chief Nick Schlabach said the chest compressor will take the place of a fire department member administering manual CPR to an individual in distress.

“We are so appreciative. We applied for the grant this past spring,” Schlabach said. “We currently have a chest compressor, so now both ambulances will be equipped with a unit.”

Schlabach said the VFD currently has 19 members including five paramedics, three intermediate emergency medical technicians, and the remaining firefighters are basic EMTs.
