OBITUARY

                        
Betty Pope Betty V. Pope, 78, died Jan. 4, 2010, at Hennis Care Centre, Bolivar. Betty was born Sept. 19, 1931, in Bolivar, to the late Russell A. and Ida M. Knecht. She attended Bolivar High School and had worked for the former Zoar Hotel and the former Kline’s Potato Farm, Bolivar, and retired from the former Snyder Mfg, New Philadelphia. She was a member of Zoar United Church of Christ, a former member of the Zoar Fire Department Auxiliary, and a member of the Tuscarawas County Archeology Society. Surviving are children, Betty Sue (Butch) Rice of Navarre, Shirley A. (George) Smitley of Bolivar, and Richard W. (Kathy) Pope of Tuscarawas; stepdaughter, Ann (Eric) North of Evansville, Ind.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jim (Mary Ann) Knecht, Jo-Ann (David) Schaar, Bill (Ruth) Knecht, John “Hubba” (Jo) Knecht, and Bonnie (Keith) Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard T. Pope, whom she married in 1948; sister, Frances Kaye Knecht; and a granddaughter. Services were held Jan. 8, 2010, at Lebold Funeral Home, Bolivar, with Rev. Ken Hutchinson officiating. Burial was in Ft. Laurens Cemetery, Bolivar.
