Central Christian School (CCS) Superintendent Nathan Holton recently announced that Zach Kooker will be the new varsity boys basketball coach, replacing Craig Martin.

For the past three decades, Kooker has significantly impacted CCS athletics. As a 2000 CCS graduate, he was named Special Mention All State in Basketball, 2000 Roy Bates Player of the Year Scholarship recipient, and he holds numerous single game and season records in basketball, baseball and soccer. Kooker will enter his 18th year as Athletic Director at CCS, during which he coached varsity baseball (17 years), middle school boys basketball (five years), and served five years as varsity boys basketball assistant.

“Zach has an impressive coaching background and dedication to student-athletes, but even more impressive is Zach’s commitment to ‘Athletics with a Purpose’ within Central Christian School’s distinctive values,” Holton said. “Zach has a proven track record and commitment to fostering both athletic excellence and personal growth among players. Zach is a servant leader and we are confident that his experience and vision will continue a strong tradition of quality boys basketball, bringing his dedication and strategic expertise to further develop and inspire our talented athletes.”

Kooker will replace Craig Martin, who stepped down as Central Christian’s varsity boys basketball coach after nine seasons at CCS.

“Coaching basketball has been a crucial piece to Craig’s educational career, (he) has stewarded numerous student-athletes to growth as young, godly men,” Holton said. “His mark on the past decade of CCS basketball is and will be long lasting. On behalf of the school, I want to thank Craig for his coaching influence at CCS.”
