Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
After preparing for the potent offensive juggernaut that is Ashland, the Knights now must prepare for another team noted for putting the ball in the end zone with an array of weapons in its arsenal; the Orrville Red Riders.
Led by senior quarterback Joey Besancon, the Red Riders are off to a 2-0 start in league play, knocking off Lexington by 20 points and then burying Mansfield Senior 32-3.
Besancon can hurt you with his arm and his blazing speed. He threw two touchdown passes last week and is averaging close to seven yards per carry, scoring three touchdowns on the season.
His favorite targets are speedy Sam Miller and Cody Rice. Both guys caught five passes last week against Mansfield.
Tre Simpson is another man in the Orrville offensive backfield that can give defenses fits. Simpson scored three times last week against Mansfield as the Red Riders rolled up close to 300 yards on the ground.
Defensively, the main man for Orrville is linebacker Chase Hoobler who is among the league leaders in tackles, averaging close to 11 per game.
The Red Riders may have a little payback on their mind as they come to Knights Stadium after a gut-wrenching 19-17 loss to the Knights in the final seconds of the game last year. Orrville holds a 24-12 edge in the all-time series with West Holmes.
