Main Street Wooster recently announced the installation of a new public art piece — a utility box wrap designed by local artist Allison Allison. The artwork is located adjacent to the newly reopened Lyric Theater at 116 E. South St.

The wrap, which blends imagery of musical scores, film reels and artistic expression, serves as a celebration of Wooster’s growing identity as a hub for arts and culture. This installation marks the second decorative utility box wrap completed in downtown Wooster, continuing a series of beautification projects that engage local artists and enrich the public landscape.

“The decorated utility box looks amazing,” Allison Allison said. “I’m grateful to Main Street Wooster for including me in the project.”

The project was made possible through a grant from the Wayne County Community Foundation and presented in partnership with the City of Wooster.

Shannon Waller, executive director of Main Street Wooster, emphasized the community’s growing enthusiasm for public art.

“This is the second decorative utility box wrap we’ve been able to install downtown, and we plan to do more,” she said. “The first installation, near 305 W. Liberty St., was designed by Lily Bickett. Look for the hidden candy cane on each box, a nod to Wooster being home to America’s first candy cane.”

As the arts district continues to evolve, Main Street Wooster remains committed to initiatives that foster community pride and economic vitality.
