For as far back as she can remember, Jillian Renee Galambos has been captivated by the way makeup can enhance one’s natural beauty.

“My mom never wore much makeup, but I always begged and begged her to buy me all the latest products when I was growing up,” she said.

So instead of following tradition, Galambos followed her heart, choosing to attend a beauty trade school. Last May she opened Jillian Renee Esthetics, an independent business with private space inside Pirl & Co. Salon at 400 Wooster Ave. in Dover.

“Although I’m an independent esthetician, I want to give a shoutout to Rachel Sommers, the owner of Pirl & Co, because she has been great,” Galambos said.

Esthetics has become a high-growth industry in the past several years as more people opt for noninvasive treatments to rejuvenate their appearance. The United States Bureau of Labor and Statistics projects a 9% increase in employment of estheticians between now and 2032, much faster than the average of all other occupations.

Being a professional esthetician requires a number of technical skills, but there is a genuine artistry to it as well. In addition to helping women improve their looks through permanent makeup, Galambos firmly believes her artistry impacts a person’s emotional makeup.

“I love being able to watch the transformations and being able to give women newfound confidence in their appearance,” she said.

Pursuing her dream, Galambos completed 750 hours of advanced esthetician training at Raphael’s School of Beauty Culture in Alliance after graduating from Dover High School. She is licensed by the State of Ohio with certifications in multiple disciplines but specializes in permanent eyelashes and brows as well as microblading.

Beauty doesn’t have to be fleeting

“I can do classic, hybrid or volume lash extensions. I can also do lash lifting and tinting,” Galambos said.

Galambos can apply permanent powder brows or combo brows, which combine the light, fluffy strokes of microblading with powder shading. Other brow services include wax lamination and tinting.

Eyelashes open up a whole new world for women who have lost their lashes or simply want to accentuate their eyes. Clients can choose from a variety of styles including classic, volume and mega volume.

“I can also do a hybrid of classic and volume, a lash lift, and tinting,” Galambos said. “It’s great for people who want to bring attention to their eyes without having to apply false eyelashes or mascara every day.”

Other services include lip, nose and underarm waxing, as well as facials. “The facials are a nice way to relax and destress while also addressing your specific skin concerns,” Galambos said of her one-hour facials customized for one's skin type.

Dermaplane facials take it a step further by exfoliating to remove dead skin and unwanted facial hair.

And if you’ve had permanent makeup applied elsewhere and aren’t happy with it, Galambos can often correct it and can provide routine touch-ups.
