The Tuscarawas SWCD hosted its first Fifth Grade Farm Tour for Garaway students at Oakland Valley Farm on May 11. It was a memorable day for these students to visit a working farm.

The students were so excited to check out the many animal species in the barn. The students got to pet the animals and talk with local veterinarian Travis Thompson on animal care.

The SWCD staff offered six stations on the tour for students to visit including forestry, soil health, grazing, composting, raising crops and animal care.

The 2023 Farm Tour was a success with the help of volunteers with expertise in their fields to educate the students.

The students were provided with an educational guide for the tour highlighting each station with an area to take notes. The guide will be a valuable tool back in the classroom for students to reference when they write an essay about their experience. The students wrapped up their day with a picnic, and Tuscarawas Insurance Agency donated lunches.
