Navigating the trip from high school to college can be tricky. The University of Akron Wayne College Holmes County Higher Education Center (HCHEC) is planning College Road Map: General College Information Night to help students and parents through the process.
College Road Map will take place Monday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. This program is offered at no charge and reservations are not necessary. Light refreshments will be served.
The information session will cover details about the college search process, such as getting the most out of college fairs, selecting the right college, dealing with deadlines, beginning the financial aid process and looking for scholarships.
According to John Lorson, HCHEC coordinator, the program seeks to educate about education. Many of our students are first-generation college attendees and they tell us how tough it can be to wade through the paperwork, said Lorson. We want parents who may not have attended college to feel comfortable helping their children with the process. Of course, if they all want to come to the HCHEC, that would be great, but our real goal is to have them going to college somewhere.
