East Holmes Board of Education holds Aug. meeting
East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met Monday, Aug. 21 at the East Holmes Central Office for the regular August board meeting.
The board did the following during the meeting:
—Approved the payment of bills and the July 2023 financial and reconciliation reports as submitted by the treasurer.
—Approved “then and now” certificates for Peters Kalail totaling $7,457.92 with the money coming from the general fund, Garaway Local Schools totaling $5,790.07 with the money coming from the general fund and Automatic Fire Protection totaling $4,665 with the money coming from the general fund.
—Approved the commercial paper holdings for FY23, which displays the income earned from commercial paper investments and fees and commissions paid in connection with the investments.
—Approved any new federal funds for FY24 and any future use of the funds.
—Approved the transfer of $15,631.84 from Fund 018921C* MS General to Fund 200924E* Esports student activities.
—Approved a contract with Garaway Local School District to provide transportation services for students participating in programs at the Buckeye Career Center for the 2023-24 school year.
—Approved the bus driver handbook for the 2023-24 school year.
—Approved the bus routes for the 2023-24 school year as presented.
—Approved 209 open enrollment students for the 2023-24 school year.
—Approved a resolution to provide payment in lieu of transportation for East Holmes students attending Central Christian School and Montessori School of Wooster for the 2023-24 school year, pending parental approval as provided by law.
—Approved an agreement with the sheriff of Holmes County to provide a deputy for school security services for the 2023-24 school year.
—Approved contracts for the following German consultants for the 2023-24 school year: Lisa Kline, Chestnut Ridge, seventh grade through eighth grade, $1,200; Paul Shetler, Wise, fifth grade through eighth grade, $2,000; Robert Yoder, Chestnut Ridge, $1,200; and Adam Hershberger, Mt. Hope, fifth grade through eighth grade, $1,400.
—Approved the following to serve as district representatives in IEP meetings to assure the provision of special education programs and services, as specified on a child’s Individualized Education Plan, for the 2023-24 school year: Jessica Martell, Holmes County Training Center; Kim Riley, Tri-County Preschool (Holmes); and Kelly Luneborg, Buckeye Career Center.
—Approved Hiland FFA to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana Nov. 1-4.
—Approved a resolution to make provisional changes to board policies and administrative guidelines and forms to comply with HB 33.
—Approved a resolution awarding a contract to A&R Builders Ltd. for the construction of the East Holmes Central Office and Bus Garage.
—Approved a one-year limited contract for the 2023-24 school year to the following new classified personnel, pending completion of all requirements, retroactive to Aug. 14: Rayma Christine Fiekert, aide at Berlin; Liza Holcomb, cook at Winesburg; and Sarah Holcomb, aide at Berlin.
—Approved Isabella Wilbur as an aide (TESOL) for the district for the 2023-24 school year.
—Approved an increase in hours for Brenda Miller, aide at Berlin, effective for the 2023-24 contractual school year.
—Approved the following placement on the certified salary schedule effective at the beginning of the 2023-24 contractual school year: Laura Beun to Masters+20, Sara Cole to Masters+20, Melissa Diener to Masters+20 and Austin Kaufman to Masters+20.
—Approved the following substitute personnel for the 2023-24 school year, retroactive to Aug. 14: all certified and classified employees as approved by the Tri-County Educational Service Center and all certified and classified substitute employees hired through the district (teacher subs, bus drivers, cafeteria, classroom aide, custodial, library aides, secretarial).
—Approved the following supplemental positions for the 2023-24 school year: Brent Schloneger, vocal music assistant director (to be paid $14,000 with $5,000 reimbursed by music boosters); Kari Kaufman, LPDC Committee; Angela Yoder, LPDC Committee; Jason Weigman, LPDC Committee; Casey Travis, LPDC Committee; James Luneborg, LPDC Committee; Darren Blochlinger, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD; Jon Wilson, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD; Bonnie Brown, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD; Casey Travis, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD; Tyler Renner, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD; Michael Schaaf, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD; Caryn Rubio, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD; Megan Mullet, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD; Heidi Olinger, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD; and Daren Maurer, Standing Joint Committee for Evaluation & HQSD.
