Garaway BOE agrees to buy Fairview property
                        

After a 60-minute executive session, the Garaway Board of Education agreed to purchase a property at 336 Fairview Ave. NW at a cost of $230,000, located adjacent to the school property and is currently being rented to a family. Funds to purchase the property will be taken from the permanent improvement fund.

The board also accepted the resignations of Drake Neilson, Miller Avenue Elementary custodian, effective Aug. 16, and Kari Haun, special services aide, effective Aug. 6.

The board also did the following:

—Granted one-year supplemental contracts to Lynn Reichmann, sixth-grade camp director; Jason Wallick, Washington, D.C. trip director; and Matthew Oliver and Joel Honigford, fall strength coaches, shared stipend.

—Issued one-year classified contracts to Oliver Yackley, head custodian at Miller Avenue; Rachel Moore, special services aide at Baltic and Ragersville elementaries; and Amanda Oliver, special services aide, Garaway seventh grade through 12th grade.

—Granted one-year athletic stipends to Clay Hershberger and Karianne Gerber, freshman volleyball, shared stipend; Zachary Mottice, middle school football; and Troy Page, girls bowling. Gerber moved from eighth-grade volleyball to freshman.

—Accepted donations of fill dirt from Miller Seamless Spouting to Baltic Elementary and $500 from Andreas Farms in support of the athletic department apple fitter tent at the Ohio Swiss Festival.

—Approved contract with MRE Services Inc. for climate control for student services and the high school server room at a cost of $14,250.

—Entered into a contract with Musco Services Lighting LLC for high school football field LED Retrofit in summer 2025. The cost for the new football lights will be $174,710. The current lights are more than 30 years old, and the new installation of lights will save the district more than $7,000 a year in costs.

—Approved 23 classified substitutes for the 2024-25 school year.

—Entered into a contract with Triad Deaf Services for the purpose of American Sign Language interpreting services for the 2024-25 school year.

—Gave approval to all bus stop locations as recommended by the administration. Bus stop locations may be changed by the superintendent and director of transportation if necessary.

—Entered into a contract with Wayne Garage Door Sales and Service Inc. for high school door replacement at a cost of $8,945.

—Approved a resolution adopting a calamity day alternative makeup plan.

—Approved a resolution to transfer $250,000 from the general fund to the permanent improvement fund as the second payment for the 2024 capital projects fund resolution.

—Approved salary increases for treasurer Kathy Maurer and David Yoder, retroactive to July 1, 2024.

Other information

The first day of school for the district was Aug. 21.

The next meeting will be held Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. in the high school library, 146 Dover Road NW, Sugarcreek.
