Millersburg Elementary's numbers add up to a gooey good time
Usually each fall, leaves come tumbling out of the air, but at Millersburg Elementary’s recent fundraiser, what descended from on high was perhaps as light and fluffy as a leaf, but a lot more messy.Millersburg Elementary’s fall fundraiser was a Math-a-thon, and when the numbers were tallied, it all added up to a fantastic fundraiser and a slimy good time. Students took a math test, and sought sponsors for the fundraiser.
“Students were sponsored either per question or in a flat amount by family, friends, teachers, whomever they could get to support them for the event, prior to taking the math test,” said Steph Baker, Millersburg PTO secretary.
Apparently Millersburg students excel at math, and the people who chose to support the fundraiser were excited about the kids doing math, because the students raised approximately $10,000. The money raised will now pay for whatever school necessities may arise. The student sales winners were the top two students in each grade that collected the most money and included: kindergarten, Jaxton Morris and Jerzey Morris; first grade, Max Pratt and Zoe Clark; second grade, Jasmine Knapp and Tara Loomis; third grade, Jack Clark and Jessica Yabroff; fourth grade, Eric Barbey and Collin Miller; fifth grade, Natasha Latouf and Annalena Rottman.
They all had a chance to throw a whipped cream pie in the face of principal Tim Wigton, kindergarten teacher Kelly Weiss or physical education teacher Darrell Haven during an assembly. The pie throwing activity brought great joy, not just to the students participating in the event, but to the student body, which went wild as each pastry missile was sent hurtling toward its intended target.
In addition to the top sales individuals in each class, the top class in kindergarten through second grade and in third through fifth grade won a pizza party for collecting the most money. The winning classrooms included Julie Dial’s first-grade class and Joan Carmel’s third-grade class.
