Legal Aid offering free online clinics and more
                        

Community Legal Aid is offering programs to anyone who may need legal assistance or who has an interest in legal topics. Programs are taught by attorneys and are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

All Community Legal Aid events can be found at www.communitylegalaid.org/events. Check back periodically, as more workshops may be added.

“Ask a Lawyer” live Facebook events

Join Legal Aid advocates live on Facebook each Wednesday at 5 p.m. A different legal topic will be featured every week. Audience members can ask questions related to the topic and get answers from real attorneys. This month’s topics include the following:

—May 12: Stimulus payments and taxes under the American Rescue Plan.

—May 19: General Q-and-A session, a panel of Legal Aid advocates will answer questions on a variety of civil legal issues.

—May 26: Veterans services, with special guests from the Stark Honor Court.

Legal clinics

If worried about an eviction or falling behind on rent, join Legal Aid advocates every Tuesday at 4 p.m. to find out what to expect. Learn about legal options and community resources that may be able to help. Visit www.communitylegalaid.org/eviction for online resources and the link to join these free clinics (May 4, 11, 18 and 25).

Learn about the foreclosure process and options if you are falling behind on your mortgage. This program is offered online on the first and third Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. Visit www.communitylegalaid.org/foreclosure for resources and the link to join these free clinics (May 6 and 20).

An online record-sealing clinic will be offered in partnership with volunteers from Goodyear on Tuesday, May 11 at 5 p.m. Preregistration is required. Those who qualify will be sent the Zoom information to attend the clinic.

A financial-wellness workshop will be Tuesday, May 25 at 2 p.m. Preregistration is required. Learn about bankruptcy and other legal options to manage debt and build a stronger financial future.

Veterans screening clinics

Veterans can speak with an advocate to be screened for free legal help related to housing, debt, public benefits, record sealing and other civil legal matters. Clinic services are by phone appointment only and are offered in partnership with local VA services. They are open to veterans in Columbiana, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull and Wayne counties.

A Youngstown VA outpatient clinic will be Wednesday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 330-740-9200 ext. 447700 to preregister.

A Canton Vet Center clinic will be Thursday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 330-761-7054 and select 4 at the prompt to preregister.

An Akron VA Community Resource and Referral Center clinic will be Friday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 330-761-7054 and select 4 at the prompt to preregister.
