The Tuscarawas County YMCA’s Turkey Trot fundraiser was successful, thanks to support from the community. This was the 52nd Turkey Trot for the Tuscarawas County YMCA.

Forty-six volunteers including YMCA members, staff, Teen Leaders Club and BSA Troop 1 volunteered their time to prepare packets, register participants and cheer on the runners on race day. The 5k race, which takes place every year on Thanksgiving, brought in $26,657 in support of the Y’s Annual Campaign.

The overall male winner was Gabriel Ernest of New Philadelphia with a time of 16:21. The overall female winner was Hannah Wyler of Mineral City with a time of 18:23. Awards were given to the top three male and female racers in each age category and the top three overall.

“We set a goal of 1,000 runners and $25,000 in fundraising this year,” said Jenny Dallas, race director. “Thanks to our amazing community, we were able to meet both of these goals while hosting a fun, family-friendly event.”

The race had 1,015 registered participants ranging in age from 3-86. Costumes, pets, families and serious runners all came together for a few hours in support of the Y’s mission of service to the community.

All proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit the YMCA’s Annual Campaign, which provides direct financial assistance to youth and families in Tuscarawas County who would otherwise not be able to afford membership or participation in Y programs like swim lessons, preschool, the after-school program, youth sports, gymnastics, summer day camp and Teen Leaders Club.

Main event sponsors included Denney Plastics Machining Ltd., Dover Exchange Club Children’s Foundation, First Federal Community Bank, Tuscarawas County JFS Fraud Department, Sign Gypsies and Wendy’s.
