Participants in the Magical Night Run, held Oct. 24, braved bouts of rain and temperatures in the 40s to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, as they gathered near the tennis courts at Dover City Park for the second annual run.
The Magical Night Run, presented by Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co. LPA, is part of the Ohio Subway Challenge Series.
The race was ChampionChip timed for all preregistered one-mile fun run/walk, two-mile walk, two-mile run, and four-mile run participants.
“We had a total of 179 registrants for the event,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio president Kamelia Fisher. “One hundred fifty-eight registered for the two and four mile runs, and 21 registered for the family fun run.”
The Magical Night Run began at 5:30 p.m. and was sponsored financially by Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths and Dougherty, BASEC Management, Inc dba Wendy’s, Nature’s Market, Richard Burns Jr. DDS, MSD, Oak Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center, and Aultcare.

“This is the first year the kids have participated in this,” said Marcia Dilling. “Mark came in first for his age group in the two mile, Michelle was the third female overall, and Laura came in first. This has been great for the kids.”
Twelve-year-old Duncan Freeland, who came in first place in the two-mile run, won with a time of 13:40. His parents were very proud of the results of his first community race.
Big Brothers Big Sisters conducts fundraisers throughout the year to raise approximately two-thirds of the annual budget, with the Magical Night Run being a brand new event.
In spite of the weather, everyone who participated in the Magical Night Run cheered on others and were happy to be included in benefiting such a good cause.
“Our Bowl for Kid’s Sake,” said BBBSECO president Fisher, “is our largest fundraiser, but we have an event coming up in November which is the Make a Difference Gala.”
