Dover Public Library adds large format printer to Maker Lounge
The Dover Public Library’s Maker Lounge now includes a large format printer, giving patrons the opportunity to print custom banners, posters and decorations. The service is available at a rate of $1 per square foot for printing on standard bond paper.
The printer was made possible through support from the Kimble Foundation, with additional materials provided by the Friends of the Dover Public Library, to help maintain ongoing service.
“We use the printer a lot at the library for decorations and large posters for our bigger events,” teen services manager Liz Strauss said. “I’m excited to see what projects our patrons come up with.”
Located adjacent to the library’s teen room, the Maker Lounge features an array of creative tools including a 3D printer, a sublimation printer and heat press, a Cricut cutting machine, and an XTool laser engraver. The space is designed to give patrons hands-on access to modern technology for personal, educational or creative projects.
Currently, the library offers printing on 24-inch-wide bond paper, with plans to expand to additional finishes and sizes up to 44 inches wide in the future.
“We’re still learning, to be honest,” Strauss said. “But that’s part of what the Maker Lounge is all about — learning how to use new technology to make awesome things.”
The Maker Lounge is open during the summer on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:30-5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Patrons also may schedule individual appointments by calling the library at 330-343-6123 or emailing strausel@doverlibrary.org.
The Maker Lounge was originally funded through a sponsorship by the Romich Foundation, with additional support from a 21st Century Grant in partnership with Dover High School and from individual donors.
