Weaver Barns to celebrate 30 years with a bang
For Matt Weaver, the decision to put on a fireworks display for the Sugarcreek community was as simple as doing something nice for people he said have been good to him and the entire Weaver Barns family.
“Sugarcreek has been good to us,” said Weaver, COO of the now three-decades-old company. “We’ve done business for 30 years in the area. We went to school here. We’re from here, and it’s nice to give back.”
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 17, Weaver Barns will treat anyone who wants to come to watch to a fireworks display. Weaver said the pyrotechnic feast will serve two purposes. One is to celebrate 30 years in business. The other is to give Sugarcreek its own fireworks after not having any to celebrate the Fourth of July.
“They didn’t have fireworks this year for budgetary reasons,” Weaver said.
People still had the option of traveling to the likes of Dover, Canton, Massillon or Wooster to celebrate Independence Day, but there’s much to be said for a village like Sugarcreek having a hometown display.
Weaver said he wasn’t sure how much money was being spent on the aerial show but promised people won’t be disappointed by its size.
“For sure we think it’s going to be a big display,” he said. “It’s a display similar to what bigger cities will experience. It should be something everybody will enjoy.”
Weaver said a celebration of this manner and magnitude has been under consideration as the people at Weaver Barns saw the 30th anniversary approaching.
“We wanted to do something different,” Weaver said. “It’s 30 years. It’s been in our minds to do something for the employees and the community. For us, it’s really nice to get to this point. We’ve been in business a long time with some different companies. It’s something unique.”
Asked whether the company had ever done something like this for its employees or the community, Weaver said the fireworks display will far exceed past efforts.
“Nothing like this,” he said. “We do summer picnics.”
The show will be sponsored by Weaver Barns, Weaver Furniture and Wallhouse Coffee. Weaver Barns started in 1994 with two employees. Weaver Furniture outdates it by a couple years but officially opened in 1995. Both are well known around the region and beyond. Wallhouse earlier this year celebrated 16 years in business.
